ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the annual Credit Card Survey conducted by Myvesta, a nonprofit consumer education organization, the average amount of credit card debt carried by individuals has risen 14.5 percent. The average American is now carrying $2,627 in credit card debt, up from $2,294 in 2003. Individuals are also carrying more credit cards in their wallets. Americans are now carrying an average of 2.9 credit cards, up from 2.3 in 2003.

Book Review of "Good Credit is Sexy" by Kristy Welsh

Just recently I was turned on to an amazing book to help people with credit. The title "Good Credit is Sexy" was catchy and definitely drew me in.

The author, Kristy Welsh, began the book by telling a story of a woman named Joanne, a 45 year-old former homemaker who had been recently divorced after 22 years of marriage. She had lived a very comfortable life with her ex, and they had plenty and he had always handled their finances. So after the divorce Joanne finds herself stuck with no credit in her own name.

This story and others like it are very common to many people in America these days. So Kristy Welsh does a great job of using real life stories of individuals to help illustrate points on how to get a better handle on your credit.

She goes into great detail about helping people with their credit issues by covering a very wide and diverse amount of credit-related topics including;

- How does credit affect you?

- How to build credit if you don't have any.

- How to obtain and analyze your credit report.

- Types of Credit Cards and how to use them.

- How to get Mortgages and who to get them from.

- Other loans like Student and Car loans.

Building good credit really is not that hard. If you learn a few basic outlines to follow, with time you will have good credit.

1. Always pay your bills on time, this is a big one.

2. Never go over your credit limits, If you can, try not to use more than 35% of your credit limit. Creditors look at capacity usage, They might think that you are depending on your credit to get by.

From what I have learned it seems like banks love to lend to people who don't need the credit or money.

Credit report scores drop dramatically due to delinquent payments from overspending during the holiday season which begins next week.
