I am not one to criticize, but I called the phone number listed and it has no option to talk to a representative. It has the worst menu options I have ever seen for a business. It apprears like you are hiding from customers behind menu options. It is very upsetting. The only reason I will keep trying to contact you is because a report from you that contains a questionable unpaid bill is preventing me from renting an apartment. If a real person (fro a change) reads this, contact me at (608) 239-2346. I would appreciate it and would diminish my negative expreince so far. Even if your lien has been released, the Credit Reporting Agencies won't take it off. They will simply report it as being not paid or paid if provided documentation. They don't just automatically update your information.

The Credit Reporting Agencies will have to investigate when a dispute is submitted. Under the FCRA you have certain rights. They change addresses often. This really confuses consumers.
They are paid by our creditors, not the consumers. JoAnn@creditcorrection2heaven.com Re: Experian Contact Information

Michigan writes: So I recently bought a credit report from experian.com and wanted to dispute some items. After about 7 total hours of researching who to contact I came up with this (since the general 1-888-397-3742 has no ability to get to a live person or even dispute items from that number). Call their corporate headquarters and as to speak to a rep. about a dispute. (714 830 7000). They will tranfer you to a person that can help. Or you can call 1-888-888-8553. If you bought a credit report from credit expert or consumerinfo.com (which both come from the experian.com web site) its harder to dispute because you don't get a file number. But if you goto www.annualcreditreport.com you can get a free one with a report number so when you call the corporate headquarters its easer to dispute. Not all states are able to get a free report as of yet. If you need to mail something to experian the address is:
Experian PO Box 9701 Allen, TX 75013 ... you must include your name, address, S.S. #, Date of Birth, and last to addresses lived at. Hope this solves any confusion that anyone has, I know I've had on hell of a time finding this out. Very good information. When disputing negative items, dispute all items. It is the Credit Reporting Agencies that have to prove the information has been reported correctly, not you.

Press 1 to "dispute an item". It takes sometimes to get through the automated system if you don't have a report number. When ask to enter a report number, you can either punch in some fake numbers or nothing and the system will say it doesn't understand you (right!!!!). After ~7 times or so (don't hang up), it will give up and forward to you a representative (whew). Once you reached a live person, he/she will ask for you personal information: name, address, ss#, phone... and give you a report number. Then you guys can talk about your problems. For my case, since my file was somehow contained another person's information, they forwarded me to another number to resolve the issue. Anyhow, this took me a day to fix this problem. Their web site sucked really bad. Good luck and thanks. -anh Re: Experian Contact Information

The good thing was other history items all contained his/her ss#, which was different from mine. Therefore, the verification process was painless. However, if this were not the case, Experian or I would have to contact all the creditors to clear things up. This would take 30 to 45 days. They realized that it wasn't a fraud case but they did not admit that it was their system or whatever screwed it up .... Yep, only Experian screwed my report as well ... anyhow, good luck. I'm disturbed that the government won't step in an make them disclose the information on their website. Amazing how someone can keep information on you and not be held accountable for providing an easily found address or phone number to contact them for dispute resolution. My two cents on this matter: You only hide when you have something to cover up, or when you know you're wrong. Re: Experian Contact Information

You do have recourse under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It is a shame it's not reported correctly to begin with. Dispute negative items and let them prove they are accurate.

Yes, you should report to the FTC. But ultimately you will have to dispute items with all 3 Credit Reporting Agencies to get results. The FTC sets up the guidelines, but consumers have to bring it to the attention of the credit reporting agencies they the information has not been reported correctly.

As I read the different experiences, don't forget there are 3 Credit Reporting Agencies.
You need to check all 3 credit reports and dispute negative information on all 3. Each agency reports separately. If your credit score is under 600 you have some serious credit issues. Your score should be at least 660 or you will pay higher interest rates even if you qualify for credit. Just 1% more on a mortgage loan will cost you thousands of dollars more in payments. Bad credit can cause you to be turned down for a job or insurance. JoAnn@creditcorrection2heaven.com Re: Experian Contact Information

I just pulled my Experian CR (the $9.50 single) for the first time. What a mess!
I'd done Equifax last May, and disputed several mistakes there, got things cleared up just fine (they were debts discharged in my 1999 Chapter 7 Bankruptcy being reported as still delinquent or just written off). Now, today, I see on Experian that these same debts that were discharged back in 1999 are now showing "Last Reported Activity" dates of 05/2004! It seems like disputing items resets the LRA date to the date of the dispute?? So the Drop Off date keeps getting pushed back? I have had no luck at all getting to the Dispute Items Online portion of the Experian website, I just keep getting a screen that says something about being sure to report disputes to all three CRAs. Of course the provided phone numbers are useless. I'm going to try the numbers provided by the folks here (THANK YOU!) and I'll report back. Also, this business of providing bogus PO Box number addresses is absolutely heinous. I can tell you that the PO in Allen, TX is not so large that a Postie sorting mail wouldn't know which boxes belong to Experian. The only way that mail addressed to bad PO Box numbers for Experian are being returned is if Experian has SPECIFICALLY request the PO not to "forward" mail to the correct Box. I know for a fact that if mail is addressed to an incorrect box number, the PO will normally try very hard to get the mail to the recipient whose name is on the envelope. Sounds a lot like intentional fraud, if you ask me. Heck, if a consumer kept changing their PO box number to dodge mail, they'd be accused of fraud, wouldn't they? Grrrr!!! I have a fraud case on a credit card. I filed a police report and then sent the report to the complaining retailer (Wachovia Bank) 3 times, as well as to Equifax.
The bank claimed they lost it the first 2 times. My credit score went from 832 to below 600 based on the fraud, which I paid off just to get my score back up. No such luck. Wachovia Bank refused to correct the injustice. The 3 credit reporting bureaus just refer you back to the retailer and if the retailer does not investigate you are screwed. Has anyone had any luck with the NCAC Group? By the way Experian is also located in Allen, Tx.....what is the likly hood that they are connected? I have had to hire an attorney to clear up this injustice. I have tried for over one year with the bank with no luck at all. Trackbacks
