Credit card industry pulling off appalling bankruptcy legislation coup By Marianne Means PRESIDENT Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress are absolutely brilliant at targeting a political problem and applying the wrong solution. Just as with Social Security, the anti-bankruptcy bill now sailing through Congress is a damaging misfire. It holds credit card companies blameless for punitive overcharges and hidden fees but penalizes unwary consumers trapped by the cards' unnecessarily high interest rates and fees.
