While some people report  that they receive credit card applications in the mail immediately after their debts have been discharged, many find that the reestablishing good credit takes some effort. The same steps should be taken as when first applying for credit- Start with a secured card, co-signer, or merchants who understand the reason for the bankruptcy perhaps overwhelming medical bills- may be willing to extend credit.
