Millions of people dispute credit card charges every year. But Consumer Reports advises you to know your rights because getting charges removed isn't always easy. If your complaint is about merchandise of poor quality, Consumer Reports says that you are better off trying to return or exchange the merchandise. If that doesn't work, write a letter to the merchant describing the problem. Send the letter certified return-receipt and send a copy of the letter to your credit card company. Be sure to send the dispute letter within 60 days of the date your statement was issued. There is a better chance that your dispute will be resolved if you put it in writing.
